This term is adapted from newspapers. For web marketing, the term refers to all content that can be seen without scrolling a webpage. Ads that are located at the top of screen are referred to as above the fold. For best results with an ad, it is best to inegrate the ad into the content. People skip over ads that are apart from the websites main content. So ads at the top of the page or on a sidebar are less likely to be viewed than ads that look like the page’s content. Also, Google penalizes websites that uses above the fold ads excessively.
